Description | Publications

Drive to Read encourages young people to engage their intellect and imagination and mobilize themselves, their families, and their communities to pursue artistic and educational enrichment in a non-traditional setting.  Through the thrill of street theater and the arts and the inspiration of new books and a supportive staff, young girls and boys in Jordan are building confidence, engaging their minds, and developing a drive to read.

FHI 360 is launching this new educational service for communities in Amman that are coping with the dual challenges of poverty and growing refugee populations.

A mobile library provides a versatile platform – both literally and symbolically – for reaching children and youth of all ages – girls and boys – and engaging them in a wide variety of activities from developing reading skills and a culture of reading for pleasure to cultural activities that promote the arts and provide children with an opportunity to enjoy themselves while participating in positive, educational, confidence building activities.

The mobile library will serve four districts in East Amman giving children there access to books, art and a wide variety of youth activities: all manner of food for thought and support to poor communities. What it provides will supplement and reinforce learning in the formal education system for those children attending school, and offer basic learning opportunities for children outside of the system.
